Ouchies

So recently I went of vacation "sans" my little one. I thought I did a great job of pumping while I was gone. However I've been back since Monday and I've had this feeling that my breast are not being "fully drained". Lesson 1: Listen to your gut
So yesterday was Wednesday and I was being lazy, I didn't pump on schedule and when I did, I didn't pump for long. (I know I know better).
Lesson 2: Follow the directions because you know what works
Last night had to be the most painful night of all. Mind you, I pride my self on the baby latching on immediately and not causing too much pain during the initial process. Well maybe I was "feeling myself" when I decided not to stick with my scheduled pumping times. As a result one or more of the ducts was blocked. OUCH... double OUCH.
Through reading posts I know the best way to get the ducts unblocked is help from the baby. Apparently they have a better "pull" than the pump. So I thought that I would just use the baby to relieve the blockage. Nope Lil Missy was not having any part of it. So as a result, I had to pump, squeeze and add heat. This was very very painful. But there is a lesson in this.
Lesson 3: Perseverance. I knew that if I stopped trying the pain would continue to linger. So around 3 a.m. hours of pumping squeezing and heating paid off. There was INSTANT RELIEF.
Lesson 4: God has equipped us women with everything we need for this bonding. If we don't USE IT or if we misuse it and take it for granted, we will regret it.

Breastfeeding Chronicles

This is my first post concerning breastfeeding. I now have a two month old and I am fascinated with breastfeeding and it's list of do's and dont's. I'm quickly learning the ramifications of not listening to the list as I end up with painfully engorged/blocked ducts. So from time to time when I have an aha moment I will post it here. Who knows maybe in 28 years, my daughter can read my post and gain some knowledge about what she should do with her baby.
